Paul Distances Himself from Single-Day Fundraising Miracle

According to The New York Times, when questioned about his record 4.2 million single-day fundraising “money bomb,” Ron Paul claimed that he “had nothing to do with it.”

Apparently, www.thisnovember5th.com was the result of the combined efforts of two political novices and staunch Paul supporters, James Sugra and Trevor Lyman.  As of the publication of the Times article, Paul hadn’t even reached out to extend his thanks.  I’m sure he also sees the impropriety of invoking V for Vendetta (and, by proxy, Guy Fawkes Day) as a fundraising ploy.

Not only did the Paul campaign haul in $4.2 million on November 5th, but the internet phenomenon has brought the Republican hopeful an estimated ”$10 million worth of free publicity.”

Now if he would only distance himself from white supremacists, neo nazis, holocaust deniers, and 9/11 conspiracy theorists.  But I guess ignorance is bliss when it comes to accepting donations from far right fringe groups.

Tuesday in Indianapolis

David slew Goliath in the Indianapolis mayoral race on Tuesday evening. The two-term, popular, incumbent mayor, Bart Peterson was defeated by a man who the local Republican party had written off as waging a pointless campaign. Early in the campaign season, the Marion County GOP establishment declined to expend funds in favor of the GOP candidate, Greg Ballard, due to the overwhelming popularity of the incumbent mayor.

However, this summer, voters were angered when property taxes were raised in some cases as much as 300%. (Mine were increased 62% - and I was told I was lucky). This had been the second such increase in four years. Thousands of voters in Indianapolis took to the streets and organized a massive demonstration on Monument Circle in the center of the city of Indianapolis. They then marched on the State House, a few blocks away, to make their displeasure known. Apparently, this show of voter displeasure fell on deaf ears.
On the heels of the property tax hike demonstration, the City-County Council, at the mayor’s request, increased the county income tax 65%. Hundreds of protestors again assembled to voice their opposition, this time at the City-County building. Instead of hearing the protestor’s complaints, the City Council opted to lock them out of the public assembly room and conduct their session in secrecy. Continue Reading »

Hillary’s Artificial Living Room Plant

On November 6th, Camp Hillary made the trip out to a biodiesel plant in Newton, Iowa for a “living room chat,” giving Iowans some facetime with The Shill.  She gave a speech that was followed by a Q & A session.  The problem?  Apparently the Q’s were as calculated as the A’s:

After her speech, Clinton accepted questions. But according to Grinnell College student Muriel Gallo-Chasanoff ’10, some of the questions from the audience were planned in advance. “They were canned,” she said. Before the event began, a Clinton staff member approached Gallo-Chasanoff to ask a specific question after Clinton’s speech. “One of the senior staffers told me what [to ask],” she said.
