A midnight rant, entitled “The Children: Our Most Precious Natural Resource”
(N.B. for the humorless who often troll about this blog: The saccharine title of this post was written with dripping irony. It should give you a frame of reference for what is to follow.)
WHY IS IT that the youth of my parents’ generation (I am 31), and the youth of subsequent generations, have been corporately endowed with the utmost wisdom, purity of intention, and forbearance by the collective imagination of the nation? Why is it that we should always cherish them, never doubt them, and protect them from anyone or anything that would presume so to do, even when their parent’s generations were expected to work more, sacrifice more, be more selfless in terms of material acquisition, and shut the hell up more often than not while doing these things?* The answer is simple: Like all precious things (gold, diamonds, the Truth), Children are increasingly scarce.
Since the start of the (socially acceptable) widespread use of contraception among middle-class American Whites, their offspring have, naturally, become more scarce and, therefore, much more valuable. Indeed, one might correctly conclude that we have, endowed our children with nearly godlike quality of substance, which is to say, we have turned youth, be it the state of being or the beings themselves, into an idol.
The enemies of Civilization have always understood the power of youth. Marx was particularly interested in the energy, ignorance, and expendability of young people in the cause of the Revolution. Hitler was a famous promoter and patron of youth indoctrination. But what our enemies never counted on was that we in the West, with our so-called Protestant work ethic, would ever become so bourgeois as to heap idolization upon our own children to the point of coddling and supporting them, let alone paying attention to them, while they proceeded to take a galactic crap in their own democratic, cushy, middle-class nest.
So, fifth column movements like the Students for a Democratic Society in the 1960’s and the Black Block in the ‘aughts, have turned our children against us and our way of life for forty years. And the organizers of these movements know we are paying attention. Not necessarily because that’s my little Susie or Phil doing their old man proud tipping over that police car. No, it’s because we, as American’s, worship our precious little scarce things. We uncritically give them a forum for their stupidity, not because we are giving the operation of their as yet underdeveloped brains the benefit of the doubt. Rather, it’s because they are principled! They are pure of heart! They are soooo passionate! And, after all, it’s just so wonderful to see our young people stand up for something!!!
There is a reason the Good Lord made us babies. He wants parents, who are, also by design, older, larger, and wiser than their children, to raise them, give them responsibilities, and teach them to be members of a society that works for good upon the earth and salvation in heaven. He did not make them babies so their parents could perfect them, or adore them, or put bricks on their heads in order to forestall maturity as long as possible. Not only is this not God’s will, but it plays into the hands of people who have no regard for the worth of our children, be they the Taliban and their American front organizations, or the Disney Corporation and their concerted attempt to make children into vapid, hollow consumers as early as possible.

*Let’s remember that our grandfathers who were drafted during World War II were most likely still too young to vote, as the age of full emancipation was still 21 for men in most states until c. 1970.
