Georgia On My Mind
I have been somewhat unable to visit the Donnybrook lately and imagine my surprise when I did: There has not been a peep said about the Russian imperialism raging in the tiny nation of Georgia! Shame on us at the Donnybrook for dropping the ball.
As you are no doubt aware, the fascist Russian regime has invaded its former oppressed neighbor, Georgia. The invasion is significant for a number of reasons. First, it was unprovoked. Sure the Georgians attacked to quell violence in South Ossetia, violence that occurred with at least the tacit blessing of the Russian military. Second, the Russians used advanced cyber warfare to initiate the aggression. This is significant in that it allows the United States to observe the Russian command structure on cyber war from afar. Third, the invasion demonstrated the reluctance and impotence of the U.S. in dealing with Russian aggression.
Imagine if Georgia had been admitted to NATO. We would, by terms of the treaty, be at war with Russia. But even without NATO, Georgia is a friend of the U.S. We ought not let them fall back in to the Russian orbit. While an outright fight with the Russians is unwise at this point, there are things the U.S. ought to do. One, kick Russia out of the G8, they had no business there in the first place. Two, supply Georgia and similarly situated nations with heavy arms to repel the Russian threat. Three, sanction the crap out of Russia and prevent U.S. firms from doing business with this over aggressive fascist state.
That is all for now, more as time permits.
